With an objective of understanding the current level of mechanization at agricultural farm operations and exploring the possibilities / means of increasing the level by bridging up the identified critical gaps, a two-day (December 21-22, 2012) Training-cum-Workshop was jointly organized by Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-II, Kolkata and Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal at Central Institute of Fisheries Education Regional Station, Salt Lake, Kolkata. The event was inaugurated by Dr. A.K. Singh, Zonal Project Director, Zone-II, Kolkata in the presence of Dr. B.K. Mahapatra, Head, CIFE Regional Station, Kolkata, Er. Anurag Dubey, Principal Scientist, TTD, CIAE, Bhopal, Er. S.D. Deshpande, Principal Scientist, FMP, CIAE, Bhopal.
Dr. A.K. Singh expressed his keenness in outlining the future framework of action relating to Agricultural Engineering/ Farm Mechanization after an extensive brainstorming on the issues. He mentioned about the revolutions in terms of variety, fertilization and zero till drill and extended his expectations that farm mechanization would be further strengthened in the Zone after the Workshop. He further mentioned about the positive impact of custom hiring in NICRA villages that was supported by an amount of Rs. 6.25 lakh for purchase of various farm implements in each NICRA KVK. Dr. K.K. Satpathy, Director, NIRJAFT, Kolkata also made a presentation during the programme. Dr. B. K. Mahapatra expressed that farm mechanization workshop should be in refresher mode at regular interval.
Agricultural Engineers from 23 Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the Zone-II, representatives from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and scientists of the Zonal Project Directorate participated in the Workshop.
