The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi, Jharkhand in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khunti organized the two-day “Kisan Mela-cum-Agricultural Technology Exhibition - 2021” from 11th to 12th February, 2021.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Hemant Soren, Chief Minister, Government of Jharkhand. In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister emphasized on the government’s commitment for bringing about the profound change in the farm and forest sector to boost the rural purchasing power.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Badal Patralekh, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand emphasized on the importance of lac cultivation being the source of income to the farmers. He urged for spreading the knowledge of scientific lac cultivation to all lac growing areas.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Rajesh Kachhap, MLA, Jharkhand outlined the recent farmer welfare schemes of the central and state governments.
Shri Anuj Agarwal, Chief Operating Officer, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth (IFIG) also marked his presence as the Special Invitee of the occasion.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi, Jharkhand briefed on the importance of lac in livelihood security of tribal farmers of the country. Keeping in view the lac production potential of lac growing states, Dr. Sharma urged the state government for taking-up the issue of formulating National Lac Development Board (NLDB).
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the ICAR-IINRG & IFIG and two Extension Folders were also released during the occasion.
In his valedictory address, the Chief Guest, Dr. O.N. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand emphasized on the potential of lac to triple the farmers’ income. He stressed on conserving the traditional rice varieties for sustainable development.
The Guests of Honor, Dr. Arunava Pattanayak, Director, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi, Jharkhand and Dr. Subhas Singh, Director, SAMETI, Jharkhand also shared their views during the occasion.
More than 1,500 farmers including lac growers, women farmers, entrepreneurs and rural youths participated in the event.
