Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR)inaugurated 5th Agriculture Education Day at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack here today. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest advised the students that they might opt for agriculture and allied subjects as a potential career in changing national priorities. He emphasized on skill-based vocational education in agriculture for the youths in developing rural economy through entrepreneurship.
Dr Mohapatra also inaugurated an Agricultural Science Exhibition showcasing the projects developed by the students of all participating institutions on the theme “Sustainable Agricultural Technologies for accelerating Farm Production”.
The Guest of Honour, Padma Bhusan Prof. V.L. Chopra, Chancellor, Central University of Kerala and FormerSecretary, DARE & DG, ICAR highlighted the impact of education on any society and threw lights on the need for agricultural education in developing a powerful nation.
Dr.Himanshu Pathak, Director, ICAR-NRRI in his welcome address sensitized the students about the scope of agricultural sciences.
Bulletin entitled “Agriculture: Innovations for Nutritional Security and Sustainability” was released by the dignitaries on the occasion.
About 210 students of secondary and higher secondary standard from 21 schools and junior colleges around the city along with their teachers participated in the event.
