Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Regional Centre, Kolkata today. In his address to scientists and staff of the Centre, Dr. Mahapatra urged to undertake field experiments at SAUs/State Research Farms for validation of fertilizer recommendations based on soil fertility programmes of the Bureau. He also stressed on the re-visit Bench Mark site profiles of Eastern India to compare the change in soil properties. He stressed on temporal studies on soil organic matter status in the rice-rice and rice fallow systems in Bihar and West Bengal States.
Director General was accompanied by Dr. J.K. Jena, DDG (Fisheries), ICAR.
Dr. S.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-NBSS & LUP briefed about various activities and achievements of the centre and Bureau. He also apprised about Land Resource Inventory (LRI) on 1:10,000 scale in different blocks of Eastern India based on agro-ecological sub-regions.
