The two-day National Workshop on “Role of ethno-veterinary medicine in organic livestock production” was inaugurated at ICAR – National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad today.
The Chief Guest, Dr V. Ravinder Reddy, Vice Chancellor, P.V. Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University, Hyderabad emphasised on increase in global demand for natural and organic foods. He also stated that there was great demand and scope for organic livestock production and need to encash the opportunity.
Dr S.B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, Hyderabad highlighted important research activities going on in the institute for addressing Antimicrobial Resistance. He further mentioned that the NITI Aayog has called for the rejuvenation and documentation of Ethno-veterinary Medicinal (EVM) Practices for the benefit of the mankind, livestock and environment.
Dr P. Baswa Reddy, Organising Secretary & Principal Scientist highlighted importance of ethnoveterinary medicine (EVM) in organic livestock production.
Dr N. Punniamurthy, Former Prof & Head, TANUVAS delivered talks on ethnoveterinary practices.
The programme is organized by ICAR-NMRI, involving all the participants from Animal Husbandry department, Subject Matter Specialists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras, faculties from PVNRTVU, Hyderabad and representatives from the Industry
