Orientation Course on IPM in Important Crops

A three-day (6-8 Jan 2016) orientation course on ‘IPM in Important Crops with special reference to Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana’ was jointly organised by the ICAR-National Research Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM), New Delhi and ICAR-ATARI Zone-V, Hyderabad at Hyderabad.

Dr. P.K. Chakrabarty, ADG (PP & BS), ICAR inaugurated the event and highlighted the importance of IPM in various field and horticultural crops in these three states. He stressed that participating SMS Plant Protection of 44 KVKs and 05 progressive farmers of these states shall be the new ambassadors of IPM and promote various eco-friendly crop management packages.

Dr. C Chattopadhyay, Director, ICAR-NCIPM emphasized the urgent need of the IPM refresher course and suggested appropriate measures for sustainable crop protection through IPM strategies.

Dr. YG Prasad, Director, ATARI, Zone-V, explained the importance of IPM in important crops with special reference to Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad flagged the issue of water, fertilizer management and need for timely action for crop health management in sustainable crop production.

Scientists from related ICAR Institutes shared their experiences. A resource book entitled ‘IPM in Important crops with special reference to Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana’ was distributed to the participants.

Dr Mukesh Sehgal, I/C HRD & Principal Scientist, NCIPM and Dr. J.V. Prasad, Principal Scientist, ATARI briefed the outline of the programme and informed that with this training (since Sep 2013) NCIPM would have completed creation of awareness among 476 personnel of existing 643 KVKs (74%) about the recent developments in IPM.
