Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare visited the Village Rani Pokhari, District Dehradun, Uttarakhand today.

During his interaction with the farmers on the vital issues and their problems in farming, the Minister advised them for the betterment of agriculture and livelihood. Shri Choudhary urged for the adoption of solar energy, scientific composting and management of crop residues & crop diversification and restricting the use of single-use plastics. The Minister apprised the farmers about the threats to the ecosystem, disturbed water cycle, reduced rainy days, uneven & uncertain weather conditions resulting into reduction of agriculture production and degrading health of soils and ecosystem. The Agricultural Infrastructure Fund, the new initiative of the Government of India was also underlined in his address.

The Minister outlined the Central Government’s vision to establish Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations in every Block of the country for the better access to market by the farmers for higher income. The Government’s efforts and initiatives for the agricultural development in terms of enhancing the farmers’ income & nutritional security, Ujjwala Yojana, complete electrification of Railways, production of biodiesel, establishing the renewable energy systems and reduction in crop residue burning, etc., were highlighted by the Minister.

Dr. M. Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun advised the farmers to adopt the Integrated Farming System for the higher profitability and restoration of the proper ecosystem services. The adoption of cows in the agriculture production system for better crops, soil fertility and family health was also accentuated by Dr. Madhu.
The farmers of Thano, Bhogpur, Rani Pokhari and Doiwala Villages of Dehradun District, Uttarakhand participated in the event.
