The Joint “51st Group Meeting of AICRP on Sorghum” & “32nd Group Meeting of AICRP on Small Millets” virtually organized at ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad from 17th to 19th May, 2021 concluded today.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR applauded the release of new varieties, registration of Genetic Stocks and new recommendations proposed on the cultivation practices and plant protection measures.

Dr. Vilas A. Tonapi, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad & Project Coordinator (Sorghum & Small Millets) outlined the progress and achievements of the programme.
The Special Lectures on “Nano-technology” by Dr. K.S. Subramanian, Director of Research & NABARD Chair Professor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and “Role of Private Seed Sector” by Shri Ram Koundinya, Director General, Federation of Seed Industry of India were delivered on the occasion.
The achievements and progress of Coordinated Research Project on Sorghum and Small Millets in genetic resources, breeding, agronomy, plant physiology, entomology, plant pathology, FLD’s / TSP / NEH, DUS Testing, IPR Management and ICAR-ICRISAT partnership programmes during 2020-2021 were deliberated during the meetings.

Around 13 Technical Bulletins / Pamphlets and 3 Videos were released and “Sorghum Cane Sweetener” and “Millet Market” Mobile Apps were launched during the occasion.
The Meetings registered a total participation by 210 delegates including the Directors of ICAR Institutes, Scientists from AICRP on Sorghum and Small Millets Centres, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad and ICRISAT.
