The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Indore, Madhya Pradesh organized the Webinar on “Bio-Fortification - Nationwide Campaign” here today. The Webinar was jointly organized in association with the Regional Wheat Research Centre, Indore; Solidaridad, Bhopal and ITC Limited, Madhya Pradesh.

Dr. B.U. Dupare, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IISR, Indore briefed about the various activities being undertaken throughout the country, especially, the efforts for the development of the nutrient rich crops varieties enabling the food uses. Dr. Dupare also stated about the “Nutritional Properties of Soybeans, Soy Based Foods, Processing Technology Suitable Bio-Fortified Soybean Varieties” for the promotion in the form of Soy food on regular basis in the rural areas enabling the poor people for supplementation of the cheapest protein source.
Dr. K.C. Sharma, Head, Indore based Wheat Research Centre of ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi underlined the varieties like HI 1636 (Pusa Bakula) and HI 8877 (Pusa Prabhat) developed by the Centre that have already been dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
During the Lecture on “Bio-fortification in Soybean by Agronomic Techniques”, Dr. Raghavendra Madar and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Verma from ICAR-IISR, Indore deliberated about the use of Zinc and Iron elements for increasing the availability of micronutrients in the Soybean Crop.
The Webinar organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence registered participation by more than 650 Soya Farmers associated with the Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Solidaridad, Bhopal and ITC limited participated in this farmers' seminar.
