The ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, Mau, Uttar Pradesh organized a Webinar on “Microbiome for food and environmental security” to celebrate the World Microbiome Day today.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. A.N. Mukhopadhyaya, Former Vice-Chancellor, AAU opined that the information on microbial diversity generated through the Project will help in prioritizing the decisions concerning conservation and utilization of the microbial wealth of the country.
The Chief Guest also launched the Website of Indian Soil Microbiome Project (www.indiamicrobiome.org.in) during the occasion.

Dr. S.C. Dubey, ADG (PP & B), ICAR outlined the importance of soil, plant, animal and human microbiome.
In his Talk on “Microbial Diversity mapping and need to develop in situ conservation strategies”, Dr. A.K. Saxena, Director, ICAR-NBAIM highlighted the attempts made by the earlier workers to decipher the microbial diversity in the country. He also underlined the initiatives by the various countries on mapping the microbial diversity.
Dr. A.K. Sharma, Former Director, ICAR-NBAIM stated that the Indian Microbiome Initiative is in line with the Vision - 2050 of ICAR-NBAIM.
The Webinar registered a total participation by 130 participants.
The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
