The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Indore, Madhya Pradesh organized a Webinar on “Management of Parthenium Grass” today. The Webinar was organized to celebrate the “Parthenium Awareness Week”.

In his Talk on “Problems and Control Measures for Parthenium Grass in the country”, Dr. Sushil Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh outlined about the 37% yield losses in the various crops reported by this grass. He stressed on its harmfulness for animals and traits of causing skin allergies in humans which sometimes also damages the eyes.
Dr. Kumar also apprised the farmers about the various useful methods like its removal / uprooting and spray of herbicides like Glyphosate for controlling the grass. The utilization of the grass for making compost using the waste decomposer was also suggested by Dr. Kumar.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. S.D. Bilore, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IISR, Indore outlined the various problems being created by the grass in the Rainfed crops grown throughout the county.
The Webinar registered participation by a total of 75 participants including the Farmers and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Scientists from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
