Addressing the occasion, Dr Singh, emphasised that cleanliness of heritage and tourist sites is integral to their conservation and enhances the image of the region. Highlighting Champaran’s historical association with Mahatma Gandhi and the Champaran Satyagraha, he called for collective efforts by institutions, visitors and local communities to keep such sites clean, plastic-free and visitor-friendly.

The Mahatma Gandhi Museum at Chandrahiya is associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s historic visit to Champaran during the Champaran Satyagraha of 1917, making it an important site of historical and cultural significance. The cleanliness drive covered the museum premises and surrounding areas, where participants collected and removed litter, plastic waste and other debris.

The community was encouraged to adopt cleanliness as a sustained and shared responsibility and to help maintain the heritage site and its surroundings.

The programme reinforced the message that clean tourist destinations contribute to heritage conservation, environmental protection, public health and an improved visitor experience. Through cleanliness activities and community engagement, ICAR-MGIFRI reaffirmed its commitment to the objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva-2026, particularly Jan Bhagidari, responsible waste management and cleanliness of public and tourist places.

The programme concluded with the message “Swachhata is Everyone’s Responsibility”, encouraging all stakeholders to carry the spirit of cleanliness beyond the campaign and contribute towards the vision of “Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
