ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, participated in a live online session today, chaired by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The session highlighted key achievements and initiatives in the agriculture and allied sectors aimed at enhancing farmers’ welfare and strengthening rural livelihoods under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
On this occasion, ICAR-NBFGR organised a capacity-building, sensitisation and fisheries-inputs distribution programme for fish farmers to promote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture practices and augment their livelihoods.
Dr Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, urged the farmers to actively participate in skill-development training and capacity-building programmes organised by ICAR-NBFGR. He emphasised that acquiring scientific knowledge and technical skills in fisheries and aquaculture would enable farmers to adopt improved practices, enhance productivity and increase their income.
The participating farmers also undertook an exposure visit to the Live Fish Germplasm Resource Centre of ICAR-NBFGR. During the visit, fisheries-related inputs were distributed to the farmers under the SCSP component of ICAR-NBFGR to facilitate the adoption of improved practices and strengthen their livelihood opportunities.
More than 50 fish farmers participated in and benefited from the programme. The programme reaffirmed ICAR-NBFGR’s commitment to supporting fish farmers through scientific knowledge dissemination, capacity building, conservation of fish genetic resources and promotion of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture for enhanced livelihood security.
A total of 57 farmers participated in the programme.
