24 June 2026, Mau, Uttar Pradesh
As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, the ICAR–National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, Mau, organized a farmer awareness and extension programme at Mungesar village in Kopaganj Block of Mau district, Uttar Pradesh. The programme aimed to educate farmers on the role of beneficial microorganisms in improving soil health, enhancing crop productivity, and promoting sustainable agricultural production.
During the programme, scientists highlighted the importance of integrated nutrient management, periodic soil health assessment through soil testing, and the adoption of microbial-based technologies for efficient nutrient management. Farmers were informed about the significant role of beneficial microorganisms in improving nutrient availability, enhancing soil fertility, increasing nutrient-use efficiency, and supporting climate-resilient and sustainable farming systems.
A key feature of the programme was the distribution of Bio-NPK, a microbial biofertilizer developed by ICAR–NBAIM containing nitrogen-fixing, phosphate-solubilizing, and potassium-solubilizing microorganisms. Scientists demonstrated the scientific methods for its application and explained how the biofertilizer enhances nutrient uptake, promotes healthy plant growth, and improves crop productivity.

The programme also emphasized the importance of microbial biofertilizers as eco-friendly agricultural inputs capable of restoring soil health, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, improving nutrient-use efficiency, and contributing to environmentally sustainable agricultural development.
Farmers were encouraged to adopt these biological solutions as part of integrated nutrient management practices for long-term soil fertility and sustainable crop production.
The awareness programme witnessed the active participation of 35 farmers, including 25 men and 10 women, who interacted with scientists on the effective use of microbial technologies for improving soil health and agricultural productivity.
The initiative reaffirmed ICAR–NBAIM's commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture through the dissemination of innovative microbial technologies and farmer-centric extension activities.
