As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, the ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, in collaboration with the Farming System Research Centre for Hill and Plateau Region (FSRCHPR), Ranchi, organized an interaction programme for input dealers, progressive farmers and scientists at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ramgarh. The programme focused on promoting sustainable soil management through balanced fertilizer use, integrated nutrient management, natural farming and organic manuring.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Dr Ujjwal Kumar, Head, Division of Sustainable Extension Education (DSEE), ICAR-RCER, Patna, stressed the importance of conserving soil health for future generations. He highlighted the significance of the 4R Nutrient Stewardship principles using the right source of nutrients, in the right quantity, at the right time and through the right method to maintain soil fertility and enhance agricultural sustainability. He also encouraged input dealers to promote farmyard manure, green manures, crop residues and biofertilizers alongside the need-based use of chemical fertilizers.

The Guest of Honour, Dr Awani Kumar Singh, Head, FSRCHPR, Ranchi, emphasized the need to strengthen trust between farmers and input dealers by ensuring the supply of quality agricultural inputs and transparent advisory services.
During the technical session, the experts encouraged farmers to cultivate leguminous vegetable crops such as vegetable soybean, French bean, cowpea, pencil bean and off-season sem to improve farm profitability while enhancing soil fertility through biological nitrogen fixation.
Scientists and Subject Matter Specialists also delivered technical sessions on natural farming, integrated nutrient management, integrated farming systems and balanced fertilization, highlighting sustainable approaches for improving soil productivity.

A field demonstration on Dhaincha green manuring showcased its role in nitrogen fixation through root nodules, along with practical guidance on the appropriate stage for incorporating the crop into the soil. Participants also visited the Integrated Farming System unit, livestock and dairy units, and the Custom Hiring Centre at the KVK campus to observe sustainable farming practices in operation.
The programme witnessed the participation of 142 stakeholders, including 80 input dealers and 17 women participants, representing five districts of Jharkhand, reflecting strong interest in collaborative efforts towards sustainable soil health management.
