Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable floriculture and soil health, the ICAR–Directorate of Floricultural Research Regional Station, Vemagiri, Andhra Pradesh organized an Awareness Campaign on the Balanced Use of Fertilizers under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Madiki Village, Alamuru Mandal, East Godavari, today. The programme brought together farmers and extension personnel to promote science-based nutrient management practices that enhance crop productivity while conserving soil resources.
The campaign highlighted the transition from conventional fertilizer-dependent cultivation to balanced and integrated nutrient management. Scientists emphasized that optimum fertilizer use, complemented with biofertilizers, vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM), and beneficial microorganisms, can significantly improve nutrient availability, facilitate the efficient mobilization of phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients such as zinc, and support the production of healthy nursery plants and high-quality flower crops. The participants were also sensitized to the role of these eco-friendly interventions in improving soil fertility, reducing input costs, and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability.

The technical sessions were led by experts who demonstrated how scientific nutrient management can improve resource-use efficiency, enhance crop quality, and build resilient production systems. The programme concluded with a strong message that healthy soils are the foundation of profitable and sustainable floriculture. Inspired by the expert guidance, participants expressed their willingness to adopt balanced fertilizer use and environmentally friendly nutrient management practices in their fields, contributing to the broader objectives of Khet Bachao Abhiyan and sustainable agriculture.
A total of 25 participants, comprising 23 farmers and two Village Horticulture Assistants from the State Horticulture Department, actively participated in the programme. The interactive sessions encouraged lively discussions, with farmers seeking practical solutions to nutrient management challenges in floriculture and nursery production.
