ICAR-NRCG, Pune Introduces Commercial Grape Cultivation in Tripura

ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune organised a ‘Field Day-cum-Awareness Programme on Commercial Grape Cultivation in Tripura’ under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Unakoti today in collaboration with KVK Unakoti.

During the programme, Shri Ratan Lal Nath, Minister of Power, Agriculture & Farmer's Welfare and Election Department, Govt. of Tripura and Shri Tinku Roy, Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, and Labour in the Government of Tripura visited the vineyard established at KVK Unakoti and appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NRCG in introducing the institute’s newly developed grape varieties, Manjari Medika and Manjari Naveen, in Tripura. They described the initiative as a significant achievement and noted that it marked the first successful cultivation of sweet grape varieties in the soil and climatic conditions of Tripura.

The Ministers also appreciated the technical support extended by ICAR-NRCG to Dr Ratan Das of KVK Unakoti, which contributed to the successful establishment of the vineyard and promotion of grape cultivation in the region.

Dr Kaushik Banerjee, Director, ICAR-NRCG along with senior officials interacted with the farmers and highlighted the economic potential of grape cultivation as a remunerative crop.

Around 400 farmers, including more than 100 women farmers, participated in the programme.
