ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar, Haryana, celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day on February 1, 2026, by organizing a Farmer–Scientist–Industry Meet, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s sustained efforts towards advancing buffalo research and development in India.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Col. Ajay Kumar Gahlot, Former Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Dr. Praveen Malik, CEO, Agrinnovate India and Former Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India, and Dr. Naresh Jindal, Director, Research, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar, attended the event as Guests of Honour.
The meet witnessed the participation of progressive farmers from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, along with representatives from the dairy industry and development organizations.
The event provided an effective platform for interaction and exchange of ideas among farmers, scientists, and industry stakeholders. Farmers shared their experiences, challenges, and success stories, emphasizing the need for practical, affordable, and field-ready technologies to enhance buffalo productivity and profitability. In recognition of their contributions, the institute felicitated progressive farmers, symbolizing the strong and enduring bond between scientists and the farming community.
Industry experts highlighted recent advancements in milking technologies, nutrition, and animal health management, underscoring their role in improving efficiency and sustainability in buffalo farming.

The distinguished guests emphasized that the future of buffalo farming lies in the adoption of smart sensors, precision livestock farming tools, and genomic selection, which can significantly enhance production efficiency. In this context, the institute’s ongoing initiatives to develop and integrate digital technologies, genomic tools, and data-driven management systems were highlighted. These innovations are expected to enable real-time monitoring of animal health, reproduction, and feeding behaviour, leading to more efficient and sustainable buffalo production systems.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from farmers, scientists, and industry partners to work collaboratively towards scientific, sustainable, and farmer-centric development of buffalo farming in India.
A total of 120 participants attended the programme.
