ICAR–National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology showcased its latest innovations at a meeting held at the Indian Jute Industries’ Research Association (IJIRA), Kolkata, in the presence of Shri Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of Textiles.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Giriraj Singh lauded the recent advancements in jute and allied natural fibres, noting that institutions like ICAR-NINFET, ICAR-CRIJAF, and IJIRA play a crucial role in meeting the evolving demands of the natural fibre industry. He emphasised the need for continued innovation and technology adoption to strengthen India’s position in sustainable natural fibre production.
The event was also attended by Smt. Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Ministry of Textiles, Shri Moloy Chandan Chakraborty, Jute Commissioner, Shri Shashi Bhushan Singh, Secretary & CEO, National Jute Board, along with Directors, IJIRA and ICAR-CRIJAF, and other dignitaries.

ICAR-NINFET presented three breakthrough technologies:
•Modern Mini Spinning Machinery for processing jute and allied fibres tailored for small enterprises,
•AI-IoT Enabled Jute Fibre Grading System for scientific and efficient fibre grading, and
•Minimal Water Retting Technology for extracting high-quality jute fibres with reduced water usage.
On this occasion, two Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) were signed: one with Bhowmick Calculators for the commercialisation of Modern Mini Spinning Machinery, and another with Neurapses Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for the AI-IoT Enabled Jute Fibre Grading System. A souvenir of the upcoming ‘National Natural Fibre Fest (NNF-2025)’ was also released.
The Director, IJIRA, also highlighted the institute’s recent technological developments and reaffirmed its commitment to industry-oriented research and innovation.
