Model Training Course on Production, Processing and Certification of Quality Bovine Semen inaugurated

18th November, 2014, Meerut

ICAR- Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut Cantt organized Model Training Course on “Production, Processing and Certification of Quality Bovine Sement during 18-25 November, 2014.

Dr. S. P. Singh, Former Director, CIRC (formerly PD on Cattle) inaugurated the programme and highlighted the importance of the training course in the current scenario and emphasised the need of certification of quality bovine semen.

Dr. B. Prakash, Director, ICAR-CIRC while welcoming the guests, emphasized that animal reproduction is the cornerstone of livestock improvement and dairy development in India. Judicious use of frozen semen technology combined with artificial insemination plays a major role in achieving faster and sustainable livestock improvement, be it a non-descript or an indigenous breed, as is being appropriately emphasized now-a-days. He further told that the reproductive technologies for upgrading bovine population are well developed although we still require efficient transfer from lab to land. This can only be achieved by having a large trained manpower to implement such technologies in the field level.

Considering the significant role of reproduction in bovine production, need was felt to organize a training course for field functionaries to apprise them of procedures of quality semen production, its processing and also to ensure adequate measures to maintain quality of the end product i.e. frozen semen. The course comprises all such areas like management of breeding bulls, and production, processing, cryopreservation and packaging of semen, tailor-made to the need of the human resource engaged in similar activities.

23 trainees participated in the Model Training Course

The training course is sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, MoA, GOI.
