The Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar celebrated the 86th Foundation Day of ICAR on 16 July 2014. The theme of the programme was “Technical and advisory support to farmers in the event of a weak monsoon and drought conditions”.
Dr. S.M.K. Naqvi, Director, CSWRI chaired the proceeding and said, “It is comparatively easy to rear sheep and goats than rearing cattle and buffaloes in condition of weak monsoons and drought”.
The institute advises farmers on how to cope with less rain since two-three months and has issued a list of varieties of crops which have the ability to grow in short duration and in less water.
During the programme, Head of the Divisions advised farmers in their respective fields. The programme was coordinated by Divisions of Transfer of technology and social Sciences. Programme was attended by more than 150 farmers including farm women. The farmers were informed about the extensive role of ICAR in reaching farmers through its research institutes, agricultural universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras throughout the country. As a result of this programme, the farmers gained confidence for facing these difficult times and thanked the Institute for supporting their cause during times of crisis.
