Project Director on Farming System Research (PDFSR), Modipuram in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna organized a three-day (9-11 June 2014) regional workshop on ‘Strengthening Partnership and Refined Methodology for On-station Experiment of AICRP on IFS’. The workshop was aimed at strengthening the partnership among AICRP units in the five states namely Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
Shri Narendra Singh, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Bihar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, he called upon scientists to come up with demonstration of Integrated Farming System (IFS) models in different agro-climatic situations. Shri Singh said that such models will help the farmers in learning and implementation of technologies pertaining to adoption of integrated mode of food production system. He also advised to document the technologies developed by the respective institutes in regional languages, so that the farmers’ can easily understand.
Dr. B. Gangwar, Director, PDFSR, Modipuram briefed the gathering about the scope and objective of workshop. He appraised that 31 centres are working on IFS in different agro-climatic zones of the country.
Earlier, Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR-RCER welcomed the Chief Guest and delegates. In his introductory remark, he stressed upon the development of location specific IFS models for achieving food and nutritional security of smallholder farmers.
Dr. R. N. Singh, Director, BAMETI, Bihar suggested to impart training to field functionaries for developing IFS models for rainfed situation of Bihar.
Scientists from five states and representatives of KVKs of Bihar participated in the workshop.
