DG, ICAR inaugurated Seed Testing Laboratory and Seed Processing Plant at Mau

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) inaugurated and dedicated the ISTA Member Seed Testing Laboratory and Seed Processing Plant of ICAR-Indian Institute of Seed Science, Mau to the farming community of the region here today. In his address, Dr. Mohapatra elaborated upon the importance of seed processing facility for the farmers of the region and hoped that it would further bolster the quality seed production initiative in the region. He briefed about the various schemes and programmes being implemented by the central government and ICAR in particular for farmers welfare.

Dr. Mohapatra, urged the farmers to extend the awareness regarding quality seed among fellow farmers. He also informed the gathering with the new initiative being contemplated by the council for developing self sustaining village communities for quality seed availability.

Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Director, ICAR-IISS apprised about the functioning of seed processing unit. 

Dr. Mohapatra was accompanied by Dr. J.S. Chauhan, ADG (Seed), ICAR, New Delhi and other ICAR Officials.

Earlier on 12th August, Dr Mohapatra visited the quality seed production and experimental  plots of the ICAR-IISS. In his address, he exhorted the scientists to come out with holistic research programmes having high impact on farming community. Underpinning the importance of quality seed in country’s food and nutritional security of the country, he stressed upon the need to  devise programmes to further enhance the role of public sector in ensuring the quality seed availability in the country.

Dr. J.S. Chauhan, ADG (Seed), ICAR, New in his remarks called upon the scientists to intensify their efforts in solving farmers’ problems.

Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Director ICAR-IISS, Mau elaborated upon the various research achievements and extension activities carried out by the institute in the region.

Dr. A.K. Saxena, Director , NBAIM, Mau briefed  the recent  activities of the Institute.

To commemorate the International Year of Pulses 2016, DG, ICAR released a technical bulletin on “ Pulses : Quality Seed Production and Technologies Development”.
