ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region (Nagaland Centre) has launched its 3rd and state’s 9th KVK at Longleng district of Nagaland here today. In presence of Mr. S. P. Phom, Parliamentary Secretary for RD & REPA, Govt. of Nagaland; Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR New Delhi and Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
Mr. Phom laid the foundation stone and appealed all the farmers of the district to come forward for getting the facility from this newly launched KVK. Dr. A.K. Singh emphasized on the requirement of soil and water management strategy, improved methods of cultivation, climate change resilient agriculture and improvement of jhum in the state. Dr. S.V. Ngachan informed that the KVK at Longleng will provide all the new techniques of agriculture to the farmers of the district at their doorstep through Field Level Demonstration and field trials.
Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, the Joint Director of Nagaland centre stated that the KVK established on a plot of 20 ha area, donated by the villagers, will contribute significantly towards the livelihood uplift of the tribal people in Longleng district.
To start the activity of KVK Longleng, a farmers’ training on backyard poultry is being organized on 17th December, 2011. Mr. Phom has kindly consented to distribute 1000 chicks of Vanaraja and Gramopriya to 100 beneficiaries of Hukphang village on that day.
Dr. C. Rajkhowa, Director, NRC Mithun; Dr. A. K. Gogoi, Zonal Project Director, KVK, Zone III, Mr. M. L. Lotha, Deputy Commissioner, Longleng; Mr. Pheklong, GB, Hukphang village; distinguished scientists of ICAR and SMSs of KVK Dimapur and Wokha also participated in the inaugural ceremony.
