Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute (CSWCRTI), Dehra Dun celebrated the World Fisheries Day-WFD 2014 at the Research Farm, Selakui here today
Dr PK Mishra, Director, CSWCRTI, the Chief Guest of the event inaugurated the event.
Dr Mishra highlighted the need of conserving water and fisheries resources as natural capital and life support systems to which the CSWCRTI is mandated and working since over 5 decades. He informed the gathering that fish and fisheries resources need to be cared for many reasons, mainly as one the important natural resources and livelihood options.
Relevant publications of the institute on fish farming and water conservation were distributed to the participants. The students and the faculty had live interaction at various event points of the Day. Students and participants were sensitized on the on-going Swach Bhatart Abhyan to maintain cleanliness of the premises for the benefit of environment and health. The day-long celebration highlighted the importance of fish, fisheries resources, aquatic ecosystems & biodiversity and conservation needs at various levels in order to perpetuate food production, livelihood and socio-economic support facilities.
