A two-day workshop on horticulture industry research partnership between Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL) was organized at Bengaluru. Dr. N.K. Krishnakumar, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR inaugurated the workshop on 3rd October, 2013.
A team of scientists and other officials from Australia was led by Dr. Selwyn Snell, Chairman, Horticulture Australia Limited also participated in the workshop. The initial focus of workshop was on identification of scientists and institutions for possible collaborative research. R&D issues relating to six commodity groups viz. apple and pears, almonds, potato, other vegetables, grapes, mango and strawberries were discussed in terms of problems of production and productivity. The deliberations will deal with the major problems of these commodity groups and to mitigate them through research based on PPP.
Directors and scientists from other institutes under the Subject Matter Division took part in the deliberations. The programme was coordinated by the Horticulture Division of ICAR and Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru.
