ZTM-BPD, North Zone – at IARI, New Delhi, organized a two day meeting cum workshop

Zonal Technology Management & Business Planning and Development Unit, IARI organized a Meeting cum Workshop for the zonal institutes of North Zone-I at IARI campus on March 17-18, 2011. The meeting was organized with an objective to promote intellectual property management and technology transfer in ICAR institutes of North Zone-I which consists of 21 institutes. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Bangali Baboo, National Director, NAIP, Dr HS Gupta, Director, IARI presided over the function and Dr S Mauria, ADG (IP&TM) was the special guest. Addressing the audience they highlighted the importance of protecting the technologies developed by various institutes. The other eminent guests present during the inaugural session were Dr. K VijayRaghavan, JD (Extension), IARI, Dr. R.C. Agarwal, National Coordinator, NAIP, Dr. Sanjeev Saxena, PS, IP-TM Cell, ICAR and Heads of various division at IARI.

There were fifty six participants from 20 institutes. Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi did not participate. There were three technical sessions and a concluding session in the workshop. In Technical sessions I and II all zonal institutes presented their Intellectual Property Assets in the form of patents, technologies, services as consultancy and contract projects. In all information about 135 technologies, 63 patents and 117 consultancy/ contract projects were deliberated. Technical session III was the Group Exercise Session wherein after a presentation from IARI for the evaluation of technologies a group exercise for evaluating the technologies on Technical, Business and Social indices as per Strategic Assessment Method was undertaken.

A Dynamic Web site for the Zonal institutes developed by IARI-ITMU was displayed. In the concluding note Dr Malavika Dadlani reiterated the importance of protecting technologies developed in the institutes and the various ways through which the technologies can be commercialized benefitting our stake-holders directly or indirectly.
