ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, organized two days National Consultation on “Rainbow Trout Farming: Prospects and Challenges for Strategic Development” during 20-21 September, 2015 at Bhimtal, Nainital in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi and NFDB, Hyderabad.
The Consultation meet was chaired by Sh. Aditya Kumar Joshi, Joint Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare) New Delhi.



Dr. A.K. Singh, Director, ICAR- DCFR emphasized upon jointly addressing the challenges for the Strategic Development of the rainbow trout farming with the state fishery departments and the trout growers.
Trout growing states presented the status of the trout farming and raised the constraints pertaining to achieving the desired level of productions.
Various stakeholders, fisheries director and their representatives including scientists interacted on issues related to research, planning and discussed on policies for framing a road map on strengthening and shaping trout farming in India.
About 70 expert scientists, Directors/representatives of state fisheries departments of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, department of Biotechnology, officers of the KVKs, State Agriculture University, progressive trout farmers and Academia participated in the consultation.
