The Team of ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana met Shri R.K. Mathur, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Union Territory at Raj Niwas here today.

During his interaction, Shri Mathur applauded the Bureau’s efforts for undertaking the Zero Non-Descript AnGR Mission in Ladakh. He also urged the Bureau’s Scientists to make Ladakh as the first Non-Descript AnGR State / Union Territory in the country.
Dr. B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal apprised the Lt. Governor about the characterization of the native AnGR - Cattle, Yak, Donkey, Pony and Dog of Ladakh done by the Bureau in collaboration with the local agencies.
The Bureau’s Scientists also met with Shri Tyashi Gyalson, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh and briefed him about a decade-long research conducted by the Bureau in Ladakh. The team also underlined the way forward for the mission in Ladakh.
Shri Gyalson appreciated the Bureau’s efforts, especially, the characterization of Ladakhi Cattle & Yak and further working on their Milk attributes which would support the Ladakh farmers. He also desired the need for devising the development programmes for improving the Ladakhi Cattle and developing a good market for their Milk to generate a good source of income to the local people.
The Bureau’s Team Members in coordination with the Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Ladakh also organized the “Vichar Goshthis” and “Awareness Camps for Ladakhi Cattle, Yak, Double Humped Camel” in four different regions of Ladakh from 28th to 30th May, 2022.
