Agricultural Scientists should work to ensure healthy soil, better production and realize the vision of Shreshtha Bharat: Shri Narendra Singh Tomar

“The Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Krishi Vishwavidyalaya play important roles in ensuring the best agricultural practices and realizing the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat in the country”, said Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. Shri Tomar was addressing the two-day “12th Biennial National Krishi Vigyan Kendra Conference - 2022” jointly organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh here at Solan, Himachal Pradesh today.

The Union Minister regarded the KVKs and Agricultural Universities as the prominent source of guidance for the farming communities. Shri Tomar applauded the concerted efforts of the Government of Himachal Pradesh for the promotion of natural farming in the State. “We should look for some other alternatives to prevent the harmful effects of fertilizers in the agricultural practices that will help to enhance the productivity of agricultural produces and save the soil’s health”, urged the Union Minister.

Underlining the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, Shri Tomar stated that it is the time to accomplish the targeted resolutions and move forward towards realizing the mission to make the country self-reliant. Highlighting the realization of the targets of increasing the foodgrains’ production in the country, the Union Minister urged the KVKs to take the leap and move towards accomplishing them.

The significant roles played by the agricultural scientists for encouraging the farmers to adopt the natural farming practices across the country were stressed by Shri Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat.

“It is the need of the hour to give more importance to save water as it is the essential element not only for the agricultural practices; but, the survival of human life too”, stressed Shri Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister, Government of Himachal Pradesh in his address. The various initiatives taken-up by the Government of Himachal Pradesh for promoting the natural farming practices on a large scale in the State were highlighted by the Chief Minister.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare urged the agricultural scientists for disseminating the new and latest agricultural technologies at the farmers’ doorsteps effectively. “It is our utmost duty to ensure that the farmers get fair prices for their produces”, said the Minister. The Government of India and Agricultural Ministry’s concerted efforts to promote the practices of natural farming on a large scale were also underlined in the Minister’s address.

“The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has envisioned for encouraging the use of Kisan Drone to enhance the productivity and farmers' income”, stated Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) during the occasion.

Earlier, Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR welcomed the dignitaries.

Dr. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh proposed the vote of thanks.

The dignitaries released the various ICAR Publications on the occasion.
