Newly Renovated Vermicompost Unit Inaugurated at ICAR-CRIDA, KVK Ranga Reddy under Special Campaign 5.0

As part of the ongoing Special Campaign 5.0 aimed at institutionalizing Swachhata across government institutions, ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, inaugurated a newly renovated Vermicompost Unit at its Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranga Reddy today.

The unit was formally inaugurated by Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, who also performed a symbolic release of earthworms into the freshly prepared composting pits. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh emphasized the vital role of vermicomposting in sustainable agriculture, particularly in minimizing farm waste and enhancing soil health. He stated that the practice represents a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for converting organic waste into valuable organic manure.

Dr. Singh lauded the efforts of the KVK team in promoting sustainable farming practices aligned with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, particularly in waste management and resource recycling in agriculture.

The upgraded facility is designed to serve a dual purpose as a production unit for high-quality compost and as a demonstration and training center. It will provide hands-on learning opportunities for farmers, rural youth, students, and extension personnel on scientific composting techniques and the benefits of using organic inputs to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.

Experts shared that the modernized unit is expected to function as both an educational resource and a production hub, contributing to improved soil health and eco-conscious farming in the region.

An awareness session was also conducted explaining the principles, procedures, and agricultural benefits of vermicomposting to the attendees.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from KVK and ICAR-CRIDA staff, reflecting the institute’s commitment not only to a cleaner and greener institutional environment but also to advancing environmentally responsible agricultural practices that benefit the broader farming community.
