The Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi in collaboration with the Bharatiya Agro-Economic Research Centre and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh is organizing the International Conference on “Harnessing Indian Agriculture for Indigenous and Global Prosperity” at the National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi from 22nd to 23rd July, 2022.

The Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the Conference. Shri Tomar stressed on making such efforts that can help in reducing the farmers’ cost of production and their easy accessibility to the markets. The Union Minister asserted on the Government of India’s initiative to establish 10,000 Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations for the marginal farmers of the country. The Council’s achievement in the adequate production of Pulses to make the country self-reliant was highlighted in Shri Tomar’s address. “The Country is working to promote Organic & Natural Farming and the area under these practices is increasing”, said Shri Tomar. The Union Minister also emphasized on the quality production and ensuring the food and nutritional security.

Shri Maneesh GOBIN, Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Government of Mauritius stressed on dissemination of the technologies between the Agricultural Institutes of the both the countries for agricultural knowledge sharing. He also accentuated that both the countries should have a common goal for the extension of the agricultural practices.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) underlined the major roles being played by the Council’s Scientists in monitoring the stubble burning with the help of 7 satellites. The pivotal role played by the Pusa Basmati Rice Variety 1121 for contributing about 95% in the exports of Rice in the global market was highlighted by the DG. Dr. Mohapatra emphasized that the ICAR is attracting the Foreign Students through the different Fellowships and also developing the relationships for Education Research and Extension with the different countries. The Director General stated that the ICAR will be very happy to have Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the related Departments of the Government of Mauritius.
Shri Dinesh Kulkarni, National Organization Secretary, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh applauded the ICAR’s contributions for promoting the Green, White and Yellow Revolutions in the country. The need for taking-up the agricultural practices in the form of business opportunities was stressed by him. Shri Kulkarni stressed on mainstreaming the indigenous and traditional knowledge. He also remarked that though the GDP contribution of agriculture has reduced; but, its volume has increased and engages more than 50% of the population.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR outlined the utilization of the modern agricultural practices by the young and budding Agri-preneurs in the country. The development of the biofortified varieties by the farmers to address the challenges of malnutrition in the country was highlighted by Dr. Singh. “The Council is working for the production of the varied varieties in the different terrains”, said the DDG.
The World Food Laureate and Padma Shri, Dr. Rattan Lal, Ohio State University also virtually deliberated during the occasion.
Dr. Jalpathi Rao, All India Chairman, BAERC proposed the vote of thanks.
