ICAR-IARI Celebrates World Food Day 2025

The Division of Food Science and Postharvest Technology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute celebrated World Food Day 2025 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) eight decades dedicated to the vision of a world free from hunger.

The celebration highlighted the critical role of postharvest technologies in reducing food loss, improving nutritional quality, and ensuring food reaches consumers safely and efficiently. By integrating innovative postharvest interventions with sustainable food systems, ICAR-IARI continues to contribute to national and global food security goals.

The event, organized under the global theme ‘Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,’ underscored the importance of collaboration to strengthen global food security. It reflected ICAR-IARI’s ongoing commitment to developing innovative agricultural and postharvest technologies that benefit farmers and consumers alike while promoting healthier and sustainable lives.

It reflected ICAR-IARI’s ongoing commitment to developing innovative agricultural and postharvest technologies that benefit farmers and consumers alike while promoting healthier and sustainable lives.  Dr. Shyam Narayan Jha, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Engineering), ICAR, emphasized food as a fundamental human right and highlighted the need to ensure healthy eating practices. He encouraged students to align their research with societal and regional priorities to contribute meaningfully to India’s developmental journey towards 2047.  Dr. Viswanathan Chinnusamy, Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IARI, highlighted ICAR-IARI’s ongoing research on biofortified crops as a key strategy to combat micronutrient deficiencies and enhance the nutritional security of the population. Dr. V. B. Patel, Assistant Director General (Horticulture), ICAR; and Dr. P. S. Brahmanand, Project Director, WTC, ICAR-IARI, also graced the occasion. They emphasized the critical role of sustainable agricultural practices in ensuring the availability of nutritious and affordable food for all.   In addition to its research excellence, ICAR-IARI continues to play a pivotal role in capacity building and knowledge dissemination through training programs for farmers and extension workers, encouraging the adoption of sustainable and efficient postharvest management practices.  By celebrating World Food Day 2025, ICAR-IARI reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative action, ensuring that no one is left behind in the collective effort to build a sustainable and equitable food future.
