Dr. M.V. Baiju, Senior Scientist, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, received the Best Scientific Paper Award - 2024 from the Society of Fisheries Technologists (India). He got the award for the paper titled, Evaluating LNG-Diesel Dual-Fuel Systems in Trawling: Results from Trials off Cochin, Kerala.

V.R. Madhu, Dhiju Das, P.H. Vipin Kumar V., Sajeev Nambiar, Nilender Kumar, Upinder Kumar, and Veerasamy Manimaran were the co-authors of the award-winning paper.

The study explored the feasibility of using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) with High-Speed Diesel (HSD) in trawling operations and proved that LNG can be a technically viable, cleaner, and sustainable fuel alternative without compromising performance or efficiency.

This path-breaking research from ICAR-CIFT provides valuable insights for advancing eco-friendly fishing technologies and supporting India’s blue economy goals.
