His Excellency Mr. Rami Qtaishat, Assistant Secretary General of the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), along with a delegation comprising 11 representatives from Oman, Kenya, Lebanon, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, and Zambia, visited the ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa today. The delegation interacted with the institute’s scientists and staff as part of their exposure visit to understand India’s advancements in coastal agricultural research and sustainable rural development.
During the visit, the delegation toured various research and development units of the institute, gaining insights into ongoing programmes and innovations in coastal agriculture, integrated farming systems, and agro-ecotourism. They observed models of circular economy being implemented at ICAR–CCARI, including agricultural waste recycling, plantation-based cropping systems, animal husbandry units, and the agro-ecotourism complex that demonstrates sustainable and farmer-centric practices.
The delegates engaged in lively discussions with scientists, sharing perspectives and experiences from their respective countries. His Excellency Mr. Qtaishat commended the institute’s initiatives and lauded its innovative approach toward promoting sustainability, livelihood diversification, and agro-ecotourism. He expressed AARDO’s interest in exploring collaborative opportunities with ICAR–CCARI for the promotion of agro-ecotourism and coastal agricultural technologies across African and Asian nations.
The visit was also joined by Dr. R.K. Singh from the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture, Dubai, and Dr. D.K. Sharma, former Director, ICAR–CSSRI, Karnal.
The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Praveen Kumar, Director, ICAR–CCARI, Goa.
A detailed presentation on agro-ecotourism initiatives at the institute was also delivered providing the delegation with an overview of ICAR–CCARI’s innovative efforts in promoting sustainable livelihoods in coastal regions.
