ICAR-National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru has been selected as one of the ICAR Institutes for ‘Drone Technology Demonstration’ under the Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization to popularize the Agri-drone among farming communities.
In this direction, ICAR-NBAIR has been making efforts to develop Standard Operating Procedures for precise delivery of oil based formulation of biopesticidesin different crops for the effective management of insect pest and diseases. Further, ICAR-NBAIR is popularizing agri-drone among different stakeholders including farmers through regular demonstration.

In this direction ICAR-NBAIR conducted about 20 biopesticides spraying demonstrations in five clusters (5 demonstration /cluster) using oil based formulation of various biopesticides carried out in Hassan, Chamarajnagar, Tumkur and Mysuru districts of Karnataka.
Demonstrations were conducted in turmeric, tomato, banana, cabbage, sugarcane, avocado, coconut, potato and maize to create farmers’ awareness and promotion of drone technology especially in crop protection.
About 600 progressive farmers, line department officials, farmers producing organization (FPOs) officials, women shelf help groups (SHGs), custom hiring centers (CHCs), RAWE students of College of Agriculture, Hassan, Department of Agriculture, Chikkanayakanahalli and other stakeholders were participated and benefitted.

During demonstration, it was briefed about various advantages of agri-drone spray for farming community over the conventional spray and government subsidyschemes for procurement of agri-drone to different target groups like government institutions, ICAR-KVKs, Line departments, FPOs, SHGs and CHCs.
ICAR-NBAIR, acknowledges support extended by ICAR-KVKs of Hassan, Chamarajnagar and Mysuru and college of Agriculture, Hassanfor facilitating for the demonstration and mobilizing the farmers and other stakeholders. These entire demonstration programmes were widely covered in print and media in regional language (Kannada) for the benefit of different stakeholders.
