13th & 15th August 2022
Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management) visited Gunegal Research Farm (GRF) of ICAR-Central Research Institute of Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad on 13th August.
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Dr. Chaudhari inaugurated the Agri-Horticulture plantation block-II in the farm. He also visited Crop Cafeteria, Technology Demonstration Block, Farm Ponds, Solar Irrigation System. In his interaction with Scientists he suggested some the action points to improve the research. Dr Chaudhari mentioned about the importance of Agri-horticulture systems in drylands.

In Agri - horticulture block -II the Fruit trees namely Mango, Guava, Acid Lime, Sweet Orange, Papaya, Dragon fruit were planted. In between these plants legumes like Greengram, Blackgram, Cowpea will be planted after the harvest of these crops and in August end Horsegram will be sown. The advantage of this Agri- Horticulture System is in the initial years the farmers can get income from the intercrops and after 5-6 years both fruit yield and crop yields can be obtained.
Earlier, Dr G. Pratibha, Officer In charge, briefed about the structure & layout of the farm. She also appraised about the activities and experiments being conducted at GRF.
Dr. V. K. Singh , Director, ICAR-CRIDA; Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director, ATAR, Pune and Dr. D. V. Srinivas Reddy, Nodal officer ATARI, Bangalore, were present during the occasion.
Around 75 staff members of ICAR-CRIDA attended the programme.
On 15th August Dr Chaudhari visited Hayathnagar Research Farm. (HRF) of ICAR-CRIDA and inaugurated new Agro- Horticulture Cafeteria at the farm.
The main objective of this cafeteria is to demonstrate Agri- Horticulture based cropping systems not only for sustainability of farmer’s income but also to mitigate the effective resource management like water, nutrients and sunlight. Commercial fruit crops viz. Mango with improved varieties (Royal special, Kesar, Panduri mamidi, Suvarna Rekha),Dragon fruit (Pink fleshed and white fleshed) and custard apple (Balanagar) are planted at spacing of 6 m x 6m in Fruit Crop Cafetera with proper planting method. Interspaces will be used for growing field crops like green gram, black gram, horsegram, ground nut for maintenance under field crops cafeteria to the extent of 1.0 acre
The DDG also released fish fingerlings in phase III farm pond of HRF and visited some of the research experiments at HRF. In an interaction meeting he suggested the future course of action in the field of Dryland Research under the changing scenario of Climate change.
Dr V. K. Singh, Director, ICAR- CRIDA was present during the occasion.
Around 70 Scientists and Staff of ICAR-CRIDA attended the programme.
