Training Program on Mahseer Breeding and Hatchery Management

ICAR-Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, organized six-day “Hands on Training on Breeding and Hatchery Management of Mahseer” during 1-6th July 2016.  

Dr. A. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-DCFR emphasized the need of concerted effort to be made by the Himalayan state fishery departments, KVKs, NGOs and SAUs for captive rearing and brood raising of mahseer for its propagation and rehabilitation. He encouraged the participants to make sincere efforts for propagation of mahseer in their respective states.

The participants were given lectures and demonstration on the aspects of breeding, hatchery management and larval rearing techniques of golden and chocolate mahseer.

Altogether, 20 participants from 9 Himalayan states participated in the training program.
