ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore organized a basic skill development training programme under TSP scheme of All India Network Project for Jute and Allied Fibres (AINPJAF) for empowerment of rural women. The training focussed on making of various types of value-added jute diversified products like jute show pieces.

The objective of the training was to empower rural women by enhancing their technical skills for sustainable livelihood opportunities through value addition of jute and promoting their entrepreneurial behaviour. The programme emphasized on developing in-hand practical skills in the production of value-added jute products, enabling participants to develop technical skill and to generate additional income by making and selling these handicrafts.
The trainees were imparted both theoretical and practical skill training by well-trained trainer and the basic skill of the participants was developed in making of various types of jute diversified products including jute show pieces. The trainees were also motivated to continue their practice in making these handicrafts after the training, so that they can fine-tune their acquired skill.

During the valedictory session, Dr Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF interacted with each participant, motivated and sensitise them on marketing of their handmade jute diversified products. He also acknowledged the importance of this type of training for creating sustainable livelihood option through skill development in making value added jute diversified products. The trainees were happy with their training exposure and wanted to learn more skill in making jute diversified products. By equipping participants with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, the initiative promoted self-reliance, income generation, and sustainable rural development. Continued support through market linkage and advanced training can further enhance the impact of such programmes.
Ten ST rural women of Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts participated in this training programme.
