Welcoming the gathering, the senior officials highlighted that the establishment of the laboratory addresses a long-standing need in the region for timely access to quality mushroom spawn. They stated that the facility will enable farmers to procure reliable and affordable inputs locally, thereby reducing dependence on external sources. They further outlined a strategic plan to develop a cluster of four to five nearby villages dedicated to mushroom production, aimed at enhancing scale and sustainability.

Local agricultural officials, including the District Horticulture Officer (DHO) of Chongkham and the Assistant Development Officer (ADO) of Lathao, emphasized the growing demand for quality spawn in the region. They encouraged local youth to actively engage with KVK initiatives and avail advanced training opportunities in mushroom production and value addition at ICAR institutes across the country.

The programme concluded with a commitment from Chow Lachit Thamoung, a progressive farmer entrusted with managing the laboratory’s operations under KVK guidance. He pledged to support fellow farmers in adopting improved practices, with the aim of enhancing productivity, generating sustainable livelihoods, and boosting the local economy.
