KVK Ri Bhoi Celebrates 26th National Fish Farmers' Day 2026 with Training and Fingerling Distribution

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri Bhoi, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, celebrated the 26th National Fish Farmers' Day 2026 by organizing a training programme on "Disease Management in Carp Culture" along with the distribution of quality fish fingerlings to fish farmers of Ri Bhoi district.

The programme aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of fish farmers on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of common diseases affecting cultured carps, thereby promoting healthy fish production and improving farm productivity. During the technical session, participants were trained on pond biosecurity, water quality management, disease symptoms, preventive health management, and best management practices for sustainable aquaculture.

During the programme the senior officials emphasized the importance of adopting scientific fish farming practices, regular pond health monitoring, and timely disease management to ensure higher fish survival and increased farmers' income. He encouraged the participants to make optimum use of the technical support provided by KVK and other line departments. As part of the celebration, quality fish fingerlings were distributed to the participating farmers to encourage scientific fish culture and enhance fish production in the district.

The programme was coordinated by Shri Bankitkupar Mukhim, Subject Matter Specialist (Fisheries), KVK Ri Bhoi, who also delivered the technical session on disease management in carp culture and facilitated the fingerling distribution programme. He emphasized that preventive health management, good pond hygiene, and regular water quality monitoring are key to minimizing disease outbreaks and achieving profitable fish farming. He also highlighted the importance of integrated farming systems and proper nutritional management in enhancing livestock and fisheries production, thereby strengthening livelihood opportunities for rural households.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, where farmers shared their experiences and received practical solutions to field-level problems from the experts.

A total of 15 fish farmers from different villages of Ri Bhoi district participated enthusiastically in the programme and interacted with the experts on various aspects of disease management and sustainable aquaculture practices.
