ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar organized a national ‘Institute–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute–Krishi Vigyan Kendra Interface Meeting’ today in hybrid mode, engaging ATARIs and KVKs from Zones VIII (Pune), IX (Jabalpur), X (Hyderabad), and XI (Bengaluru).
The meeting was graced by Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, as Chief Guest, and presided over by Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director & Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-IVRI. It brought together Directors of ATARIs including Dr. S.K. Roy, Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Dr. Sheikh N. Meera, and Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian along with KVK Heads and IVRI Division Heads.

Dr. Rajbir Singh underscored the critical role of ATARIs and KVKs in nation-building and advocated for the creation of “islands of excellence” within the KVK network. He called for enhanced collaboration between IVRI, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and emphasized the need to scale up climate literacy, entrepreneurship programs, feed and fodder production, and awareness on advanced technologies such as sex-sorted semen and methane mitigation for sustainable livestock development.
Dr. Rupasi Tiwari, Joint Director (Extension Education), outlined the objectives of the interface, emphasizing its role in aligning field-level livestock development efforts with IVRI’s research priorities, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
In his remarks, Dr. Triveni Dutt highlighted ICAR-IVRI’s significant contributions to livestock health and production and emphasized the importance of feedback from KVKs and ATARIs in shaping need-based research. He stated that this was the third such interface in a series focused on strategic planning and research prioritization.

During the technical session, key challenges and priorities identified by KVK officials and ICAR-IVRI experts included the need for vaccines against LSD and mastitis, tick control solutions, affordable diagnostics, infertility management tools for breeds like Gir cows, climate-resilient fodder, pellet machines, and enhanced rural training.
The meeting saw the participation of 271 representatives from 287 KVKs across 12 states and UTs, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep, reflecting a broad and collaborative approach to strengthening livestock extension and innovation.
