ICAR-DFR, Pune Organises Awareness and Demonstration Drive under Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Kalus Village, Pune

As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan, a multidisciplinary team of scientists from ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune, in collaboration with officers from the Maharashtra State Agriculture Department, conducted an awareness and demonstration programme at Kalus village, Pune, today.

The programme aimed to enhance farmers’ awareness on sustainable and scientific agricultural practices for improved crop health and productivity. During the awareness session, experts sensitized farmers on the crucial role of biofertilizers in maintaining soil fertility and enhancing crop growth. Scientists also highlighted the significance of natural enemies in agricultural ecosystems and their role in biological pest regulation.

The team provided detailed guidance on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies and Insecticide Resistance Management (IRM) practices to help farmers adopt judicious pest control measures while minimizing dependency on chemical pesticides.

As part of the field demonstration activities, scientists showcased the use of light traps for white grub management, explaining their installation, operation, and effectiveness in reducing pest populations in agricultural fields through eco-friendly means.

The programme was jointly coordinated by Maharashtra State Department of Agriculture along with the team from ICAR-DFR, Pune.

A total of 32 participants, including 3 women farmers, attended the programme and actively interacted with scientists and agriculture officers to better understand practical solutions for crop protection and sustainable farming.

The programme reinforced ICAR-DFR’s commitment to farmer outreach and dissemination of scientific knowledge under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan for resilient and sustainable agriculture.
