As ICAR–KVK Kodagu moves towards its Golden Jubilee milestone, the KVK showcased its ongoing efforts in technology dissemination, natural farming, skill development and farmer capacity building during the visit of Prof Dr Tusar Kanti Behera, Director, ICAR–Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru today.
Dr Behera visited the ICAR–KVK Kodagu Farm at Athur, while he was briefed on the KVK’s major activities, field demonstrations and extension initiatives, highlighting its efforts towards promoting sustainable agricultural practices, strengthening farmer capacity and facilitating the adoption of improved technologies in Kodagu district.
During the visit, Dr Behera reviewed the Arka Natural Farming Model Block and Nursery Unit and interacted with the KVK scientists, on various demonstrations and extension activities being undertaken at the farm. He also provided suggestions for further strengthening the dissemination of sustainable and farmer-friendly technologies.
As part of the programme, a tree plantation activity under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” was organized. The Director also presented certificates to 25 trainees with disabilities who participated in an agriculture-based entrepreneurship development training programme conducted by ICAR–KVK Kodagu in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM).
Dr Behera released an extension publication highlighting the Natural Farming Model developed by the Scientist (Soil Science) at ICAR–KVK Kodagu. He also reviewed the KVK’s preliminary profile video and provided valuable suggestions for effectively showcasing its infrastructure, technological interventions, demonstrations, and farmer-oriented initiatives.
A key highlight of the programme was the announcement of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of ICAR–KVK Kodagu, marking an important milestone in its journey of agricultural technology dissemination, farmer training and extension services. The milestone is expected to provide fresh impetus to the KVK’s future initiatives, with greater emphasis on strengthening farmer–scientist linkages, promoting sustainable and innovative technologies, enhancing skill development and expanding technology outreach. These efforts will contribute towards building resilient farming systems, improving adoption of scientific practices and supporting sustainable livelihoods among farmers and rural communities in Kodagu.
