DG, ICAR Visits ICAR-RCER, Ranchi

Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), visited the ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Farming System Research Centre for Hill and Plateau Region (FSRCHPR), Ranchi, accompanied by Dr. D. K. Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR today.

During the interaction with scientists and staff, Dr. Jat emphasized the importance of teamwork and proposed the formation of dedicated state-wise scientist groups in the Eastern Region to work in a participatory mode. He underscored the “One Team, One Task” approach to enhance efficiency, visibility, and tangible outcomes across the region. Highlighting the need for synergy, he also encouraged collaborative initiatives with nearby ICAR institutes in priority areas of research and education.

Dr. Jat reviewed the exhibition showcasing innovative technologies developed by the Centre, including improved crop varieties, grafting techniques, solar-powered machinery, medicinal plants, and other farmer-centric innovations. He lauded the Centre’s contributions in delivering region-specific solutions for the hill and plateau ecosystems of Eastern India.

Dr. Jat commended his achievements, calling such farmers the nation’s pride, and stressed the need to nurture more farmer-entrepreneurs through research-driven innovations.

DG (ICAR) also interacted with Mrs. Albina Ekka, a budding entrepreneur associated with the Centre, as well as with progressive farmers of Ranchi district. To mark the occasion, he even planted a sapling on the Centre premises, symbolizing sustainability, growth, and commitment to future generations. He also visited the exhibition of innovative technologies and lauded the Centre’s efforts in developing farmer-oriented solutions for the hill and plateau regions of Eastern India.

On the occasion, a MoU was signed with an ABI incubatee for the “Commercial Production of Swarna Vasundhara,” a vegetable soybean variety. A progressive farmer shared his journey of becoming an agri-entrepreneur through collaboration with FSRCHPR, particularly in seed and planting material production.

The programme was attended by Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR-ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi; Dr. Vishal Nath Pandey, OSD, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Jharkhand; Mr. Vikas Kumar, Director, SAMETI, Jharkhand; and Dr. Shivendra Kumar, Former Head, FSRCHPR, Ranchi.

Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna, presented an overview of the Centre’s ongoing research and developmental initiatives to Secretary (DARE) & DG, ICAR.
