ICAR-NIVEDI, Bengaluru Expands NABL Accreditation to 28 Veterinary Diagnostic Tests

16 October 2026, Bengaluru

ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru, has achieved a significant milestone by expanding the scope of its accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 to 28 veterinary diagnostic tests through the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The expanded scope covers major livestock diseases, zoonotic infections and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The accredited tests cover several important diseases affecting livestock, including brucellosis, leptospirosis, capripoxvirus infections, including lumpy skin disease, trypanosomosis and bovine tuberculosis in cattle and buffaloes. In sheep and goats, the tests include Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), sheep pox, goat pox, brucellosis and leptospirosis. The scope also includes African Swine Fever (ASF), Classical Swine Fever (CSF), brucellosis and leptospirosis in pigs, as well as leptospirosis testing in dogs.

The accreditation further covers bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing for Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus species in specified samples from livestock and poultry.

ICAR-NIVEDI employs advanced molecular, serological and microbiological techniques, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), virus neutralisation and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, to ensure reliable diagnostic services.

This achievement strengthens India's capacity for quality-assured veterinary diagnostics, early detection of disease outbreaks, effective disease surveillance and preparedness under the One Health approach. The revised accreditation scope was approved on 7 October 2026 and remains valid until 4 December 2029, subject to continued compliance with NABL requirements.
