10 July 2025, Palghar
The National Fish Farmers Day 2025 was jointly organized by ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dahanu, Palghar at Kosbad Hill. The event commemorated the landmark achievement of Dr. Hiralal Chaudhury and Dr. K.H. Alikunhi, who successfully induced breeding in Indian Major Carps in July 1957 ushering in a new era for Indian aquaculture.
Dr. N.P. Sahu, Director and Acting Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, urged the farmers to adopt scientific practices and leverage schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.

Five progressive fish farmers were felicitated during the programme. The technical session featured immersive AR/VR demonstrations enabling farmers to experience 3D simulations of fish anatomy, pond management, and disease diagnosis.
The event included a Matsya Kisan Sangoshti and interactive panel discussion "Mann Ki Baat: Matsya Kisan ke Saath", enabling direct engagement between fish farmers and ICAR-CIFE scientists.
A live drone demonstration showcased automated feed application in ponds reducing labor and increasing efficiency especially benefiting small-scale farmers. The demonstration was led by trained ICAR-CIFE pilots.
A mini exhibition on fisheries and agri-business innovations was organised which featured the institute’s technologies, fish feed samples, value-added products, and information materials.
The major highlight was the launch of the Know Your Farmer/Fisher (KYF) initiative by the FEES Division. Aimed at building a comprehensive database of fish farmers and fishers, it will enhance outreach, policy planning, and personalized support. A one-page farmer profile document was introduced as part of this effort.

The National Fish Farmers Day 2025 celebration reflected the vibrant spirit of India’s aquaculture community and emphasized the transformative role of technology in ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth in the fisheries sector.
Over 200 fish farmers, including women participants, officials from the Department of Fisheries, and representatives from TN Foundation attended the event, which showcased the transformative potential of emerging technologies in fisheries.
