ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, observed Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 from 27 October to 2 November 2026 under the theme “Probity for Prosperity”, reaffirming its commitment to ethical governance, transparency and accountability in public service. The week-long observance featured a series of awareness programmes, competitions and outreach activities to promote integrity and sensitise employees, students and the public about their role in preventing corruption.
The observance commenced on 27 October 2026 with the administration of the Vigilance Pledge to the institute's staff and other participants. Personnel from the regional centres joined the programme virtually. Posters, banners and placards carrying messages on integrity, transparency and anti-corruption were also displayed across the campus to promote ethical conduct and probity in public life.
Students from PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya and Central Model School, Barrackpore, actively participated in the activities, highlighting the importance of fostering integrity, ethical values and social responsibility among the younger generation. The week-long observance concluded with a valedictory programme on 2 November 2026. Dr D. K. Meena, Institute Vigilance Officer, welcomed the gathering and presented an overview of the activities conducted during the week. Dr A. K. Patra, Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, presided over the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Patra emphasised the importance of upholding vigilance and ethical values in both professional and personal life. Distinguishing between ambition and greed, he encouraged participants to pursue professional excellence and growth without compromising honesty, integrity and moral principles. He also appreciated the initiatives undertaken by ICAR-CIFRI to promote transparency, accountability and probity.
In his presidential address, Dr Dey highlighted the importance of institutional governance based on integrity, transparency, accountability and excellence in public service. He emphasised the judicious utilisation of public resources, sound financial management and effective audit mechanisms, alongside responsible and ethical decision-making. He further underlined that probity extends beyond financial propriety to include the timely disposal of official matters, fulfilment of institutional commitments and avoidance of unnecessary procedural delays. Calling upon employees to view vigilance as an institutional ethos rather than merely a regulatory obligation, he stressed the need to build a transparent, responsive and performance-oriented organisation.
Through the observance, ICAR-CIFRI reinforced the message that integrity is a shared institutional and societal responsibility. The participation of institute personnel, students and members of the local community strengthened awareness about the importance of transparency, accountability and ethical conduct as essential pillars of good governance and sustainable national development.
