ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata celebrated World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2026 with great enthusiasm to promote awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), innovation, and the importance of protecting scientific and technological advancements through appropriate legal frameworks. The celebration was aligned with the World IP Day 2026 theme: “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate,” which recognizes the role of intellectual property in fostering creativity, technological advancement, branding, and economic growth in the sports sector and beyond.

Dr D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, emphasized the growing significance of intellectual property in agricultural research, technology commercialization, and institutional development. He highlighted the need to safeguard innovative research outputs for the benefit of society and national progress.
A keynote lecture was delivered on ‘An Overview of Intellectual Property (IP) & Patenting System in India.’ The lecture provided comprehensive insights into various forms of intellectual property, patent filing procedures, legal protection mechanisms, and the strategic role of IPR in encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship, and knowledge-based growth. The session was highly interactive and greatly appreciated by the participants.

The programme served as an effective platform for enhancing awareness and understanding of intellectual property rights among the scientific community and young researchers. Around 50 participants, including scientists, technical officers, administrative officers, students, research associates, and senior research fellows, attended the event.
