The Department of Apparel and Textile Science, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University, under the NEH Project of ICAR–National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, organized a two-day International Symposium cum Workshop on ‘Pioneering Sustainable Innovations and Business Opportunities in Natural Fibres’ on 5 & 6 December 2025. The event was held in collaboration with CMERTI Lahdoigarh, the Central Silk Board, and ICAR–NINFET, Kolkata. The inaugural session was held under the guidance of Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR–NINFET.
Dr. Bidyut Chandan Deka, Vice Chancellor, AAU, delivered the presidential remarks while the senior officials from the institute chaired the technical session. Keynote speakers included Mr. Peter Clarke, CEO, COMTE PIERRE MOSAIC, France; Dr. Firoz Babu Kadumudi, Technical University of Denmark; and the General Manager, Rudrasagar Silk Limited. Experts from ICAR–CSWRI, CSIR–NEIST, USTM, and the DC’s Office, Cachar also contributed.
The symposium served as an effective platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration, highlighting sustainable solutions and new business opportunities in the natural fibre sector.
